"fish & onion" started as a First Motion supported project titled "Lake Peipus" as its subject was the border region between Estonia and Russia which is formed by the lake. On the Estonian side lives a group of "Old Believers" of Russian origin. Marc Brummund, Bettina Herzner and René Fischer started of their ethnographic documentary developing an interactive multimedia map of the region.
The documentary premiering in Hamburg is an additional outcome of that project. The team was so taken with the region, the people and the topic that they continued returning there.
The result of those journeys can now be seen at Filmfest Hamburg.
