FIRST MOTION: PROJECT DEVELOPMENT ON ITS WAY

Today’s News: Big success in Tallinn
From 12th to 15th July 2010 the first international LAB session for mentored development of the seven chosen projects of the first call took place in Tallinn, Estonia.

During the mandatory three-day-workshop organized by the Tallinn University Baltic Film and Media School (BFM) the 14 highly motivated participants out of five countries successfully started to develop their funded project ideas. The LAB’s programme included professional lectures about the general challenges of digital production nowadays, as well as the individual presentation and improvement of the seven projects, which will further be developed within the next months – accompanied by local mentoring of the particular First Motion partners.
In addition to the initiating LAB session the participants were free to attend lectures at the „Workshop in Creative Industries“, a non-degree course aiming to investigate Creative Industries as contributing part of economic growth, offered contemporaneously by the Stockholm School of Economics in Riga and the BFM.

The seven projects granted funding during the first application period are:
LARGER THAN LIVE by Nic Schröder and Tobias Lundqvist, Sweden
KULTUUB by Agne Nelk, Estonia
PEIPSI by Marc Brummund and René Fischer, Germany
SUPERHERO.BLOG by Stefan Gieren, Germany
NUMBER ONE by Kirstine Dollerup and Rune Christensen, Denmark
15 YOUNG BY YOUNG by Ilona Bičevska, Latvia
NORTHERNERS IN THE TIME OF THE CHOLERA by Frode Vestad, Norway

The first LAB was accompanied by a First Motion partner meeting in which the manifold experiences during the first reporting period of the EU-funded regional development project were discussed. Of special interest were e.g. the development of a tendering document for the planned distribution platform BALTIC UNIVERSE, and the question of how to sharpen First Motion’s research design for Creative Clusters and Regional Development (Workpackage 5). This segment of the project’s portfolio is especially executed by the project partners from Aarhus and Lodz.

For further information about the workshop results and the basic findings of the partner meeting please check out project manager Till Hardy’s article which will be published in the First Motion blog within the next few days.

Sneak Preview 1: Second LAB scheduled for autumn
At the beginning of October 2010 the second „Baltic cross-media development LAB“ will take place in Tallinn, Estonia.

Under the guideance of the Swedish process leaders Jonas Michanek and Andreas Breiler from Idélaboratoriet the cross-media projects will be improved due to their special profiles.

Please check out our overview of upcoming dates in the schedule below.

Sneak Preview 2: Baltic Universe comes into reach
Within the next couple of weeks the tendering document for BALTIC UNIVERSE, a distribution platform project aiming to improve the infrastructure of information and online distribution for films within the Baltic Sea Region, will be published.
Stay tuned and check out our website if you’re interested in downloading the document with details about the tendering period and procedure as soon as it’s open to public.
